Sometimes I have to practice things I don't particularly enjoy, or think I will enjoy. For instance, studio photography. I usually use natural light, and more often than not am outdoors, but I am constantly thinking up scenes that can only be created indoors, like cinema stills with props, fabricated settings and artificial lighting. So maybe its not so bad. In a locked room, you can do whatever you want (get naked?) and listen to whatever you want (Radiohead?) Last week I dedicated a part of an afternoon to playing with lights and a projection screen on my body. Here is one image, where the projections cause an appearance of a geographical landscape on skin. When the body, (as I often place it in my work) is fragmented it becomes more abstracted, just an element within its surrounding environment.
